THE GOOSE LIVER FESTIVAL WELCOMES EVERYONE TO A ROYAL FEAST AT THE BUDA CASTLE!
Anyone can feel as a king for a weekend at the Buda Castle, during the Goose Liver Festival from the 1st through 3rd of June 2012. This year the special guest of the event shall be the Tokaj wine region. You will have chance to taste the Hungarian goose liver dishes prepared based on traditional and redesigned recipes with wines from Tokaj and other Hungarian delicacies, at reasonable prices. The Festival´s atmosphere will every day be guaranteed by live concerts, dance performances, traditional games and special programs for children.
Before the event we shall create the official goose liver dish of the Festival, the Goose Liver Buda Castle Style, that can be tasted at the stands of all ten restaurants. Visitors will have the possibility to taste and buy gastronomical specialties (e.g. jams, wines, palinkas) that pair well with goose liver, as well as the products of the Handmade Hungarian Tastes. On the first week-end of June the Tokaj wine region will be represented at the Festival by ten winemakers.
Besides those interested in gastronomy we strive to please families as well: in addition to the excellent Hungarian tastes the atmosphere is guaranteed by live concerts, dance performances, traditional games and special programs for children. Apart from the concerts visitors of the Festival are entertained by puppet theatre, giant goose game, kid´s playing corner, Mattie the Goose-boy* look-a-like competition. (*Lúdas Matyi - folk hero of a Hungarian epic poem, a poor young peasant boy, who is trying to sell his geese at the market, gets punished unfairly by the local lord, but gets vengeance three times. The poem emphasizes the intelligence of the poor.). Those attending the Festival will have the chance to meet traditional craftsmen: pottery artists, ceramic artists, woodcarving artists and basket weavers.
Goose liver belongs to the cultural and gastronomical heritage of Hungary, a cook book written by Anna Bornemissza in the 1500s contains the recipe of the roast goose liver. This written memory is one of the evidences prooving the 400 years´ tradition of goose fattening in Hungary.
"This year we are organising the Goose Liver Festival for the fourth time. Until this year the Festival was held at Orosháza, the capital of goose liver and this is the first time we organise the event at the Buda Castle. The previous Festivals had about 12-15 thousands of visitors, consuming about 1200 kg of goose liver each year. One of the main purposes of the Festival is to offer everyone the opportunity to be a part of this gastronomic experience once a year, at a reasonable price."
- said Krisztián Pap
, general manager of the Festival organiser MIKSZ.
The Festival is organised by the Hungarian Tastes Commercial Alliance, a private company aiming to popularise and support quality food products and food manufacturers of Hungary.
Have a good time!
